This painting is inspired by my July 2012 journey to Alghero, Sardinia, where I visited what are called Grotte di Nettuno, or Neptune's Caves. It is a stalactite cave discovered by local fishermen in the 18th century. The grotto gets its name from the Roman god of the sea, Neptune and its entrance is at the foot of the Capo Caccia cliffs and was once home to the now extinct Mediterranean Monk seal. My time discovering these remote caves brought a sense of wonderment and awe for the Earth's natural majesty and immense beauty. I dedicate this painting series to the blessed water, the earth, and the Mediterranean Monk seal.
